New Takata airbag recall news not good for VW models

If it doesn’t rain, it pours for Volkswagen because they have had a bad time of late in the press due to the diesel emissions scandal, and now they could be implicated in a new round of Takata airbag recalls. However, we have to remember that this is more so to do with another company rather than the German carmaker, as this issue was out of their hands.

New Takata airbag recall news not good for VW models

Latest Takata news would suggest that the NHTSA is considering adding yet more vehicles to the recall, and this could actually be a small blessing for VW, because while they could be part of this recall notice, it could take a little media coverage away from their other problems – although not much.

12 carmakers are already included in the recall, and now the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration could add another 7 automakers, which are Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Spartan Motors, Suzuki, Tesla, Volvo Trucks, and finally VW.

Before we get carried away though, there is no recall just yet for these companies, it’s just the NHTSA has asked those carmakers to supply them with a list of their models that contain the inflators that use ammonium nitrate propellant supplied by Takata. This means that none, some or all of them could be affected, and so we will just have to wait and see how this plays out.
