Land Rover

Recalls for Land Rover vehicles in the USA will be pretty rare, or shall we say it has been for their off-road vehicles and luxury SUVs in the past. Common Land Rover problems will mostly not be related to the need for a recall, although some owners could feel strongly about their issues and want to look to see if anyone else experiences the same defects.

You can leave details on your Land Rover problems with Discovery, Freelander, and any other model below. Feel free to reply to other feedback and complaints on this page, or reach out to customer service through official channels we have listed. This includes a VIN search tool for recalls, although Land Rover hasn’t issued recalls to the level of other brands.

If you look back years, then you will notice Evoque/LR2 brake issues and potential airbag faults in the past. The UK Jaguar Land Rover brand has done pretty well with keeping their four-wheel-drive vehicles out of recall headlines.

My Land Rover has developed the Body Control Module software, although it is not even the 2014 model that was said to be the only model affected by the faulty software.

  • Chuck

My 2001 D2 seems to have developed a overheating problem and the heater no longer blows hot air. Does anyone know what this could be?

  • Harry

My 2000 1.8 5 door Freelander has a problem where every time I go to start it, the fuse for the starter motor blows. What could be the cause?

  • Sean

Well, what a surprise, my Range Rover Sport is part of this brake recall. Cannot believe I will now have to do without my SUV while it gets fixed.

  • Richard

Is it a common problem for the brakes on my 2003 Freelander to wear prematurely?

  • Gary

Cannot believe my 2014 Range Rover Sport is not part of this new airbag recall, what a pain.

  • Daz

Why is it that the brake pads on my 2003 Freelander SE-3 wear down a lot faster than most other vehicles I have owned?

  • Michael

The suspension light keeps coming on in my 2011 Range Rover Sport Autobiography. I have taken it to the dealer to be fixed on many occasions, yet the light keeps coming back on.

  • Abby

Just bought a 2005 Land Rover Freelander and have fallen foul to the common head gasket problem. Please be aware of this issue, as I do not wish you to have to foot the same bill as I just have.

  • Rob

Why is it that the ventilator on my 2003 Freelander is stuck in the same position. I have tried to move it, but with no luck.

  • Daz

I have a 96 Land Rover Discovery, and seem to have a coolant leak coming from near the top of the radiator. There is water all over the engine bay, but seems to be more so near the top of the rad. I have tightened all the hoses, and also checked for cracks, but all seems fine. Where on earth could the water be coming from?

  • Jason

I’ve been told that the LR2 has negative camber, which is why tires do not last very long. Is there a way to resolve this issue without affecting the ride and handeling?

  • Phill

My 2001 Land Rover struggles to get over 4,000 revs. This is a diesel and just wondered if this was a common issue?

  • Steve

How come the suspension light keeps coming on in my 2011 Range Rover? This had happened before while under warranty and was fixed for free, but now the issue has reoccured, and looks I am left to foot the bill. This seems unfair when it does seem as though this could be a common fault with this model and year.

  • Tommy

Three of the five electric windows on my 2003 Freelander no longer work, and have to be held in place with ducttape, as they want to come down and stay down. This had already happen to one window, but was meant to be fixed, yet the issue has now got a lot worse.

  • Dougie

There seems to me several issues going on with my 2003 land Rover Freelander. After fixing several issues, another has developed, and to me just seems like one issue after another. What makes this worse is the fact this other problem is one that had been meant to be rectified several months ago by the dealer.

  • Jason

if you were thinking of buying an older Land Rover Discovery, then you might want to reconsider. The reason I say this is because the plastic used on the interior is of poor quality, and so is very brittle and breaks very easily. The worst area is the plastic under the seats, which looks so ugly now.

  • Cecil

The service engine light on my 2003 Land Rover Freelander is now staying on. I have since taken it to the deal, although they said they were unable to find the cause of the problem because it never came up when they had it. I find this very strange seeing as though it is now back on and will not go off.I am now starting to get angry, and so turn to this community for help.

  • Olly

Please help, the function that allows my Range Rover to warm itself up before I get in on a cold morning is no longer working. I have since been back to Land Rover several times and has yet to resolve the issue. I know I should not have to ask anyone for advice, seeing as though the so-called experts are meant to be working on it, but I have now lost faith in them.

  • Nigel

The heater core on my Land Rover Discovery II has failed on me, which is very annoying. This is because it is now the second time this has failed on me, and so you would think a part like this would last loner that 3 years. What is even more annoying is how much these parts cost, and so you think they would have a longer life on them.

  • Warren

I have always kept my 2000 Land Rover Freelander serviced on a regular basis, yet the head gasket has now gone. This is just something you do not expect to happen on a well maintained vehicle with less than 50,000 miles on the clock. Is this a common issue with this vehicle, or is mine the exception?

  • Jerry

The brakes on my 2002 Land Rover Discovery II are leaking at the rear. I have been quoted $2,000 to get the brakes repaired, so should I attempt it myself, as this does seem like a huge sum of money?

  • Chris

A CD has become jammed in my 200 Land Rover Discovery II CD Player, and I have tired so many different things to get it out, but have had no luck. Are there any suggestions?

  • Ian

I know that my 2001 Land Rover Freelander diesel is not going to be very quick, but it struggles to even get up hills, and feels as though it almost wants to come to a stop. However, once on a flat road surface, all is fine again.

  • Daz

Is is usual for a heater core to break even though my Land Rover Discovery is only 10 years old? I know some people will say it is old, but I have had many cars older that that, and have never had an issue with their heater core when looking through their service history, or for the years I have owned them?

  • Richard

The rear windows on my 1995 Land Rover Discovery will no longer roll down – yes they are manual ones. I did try at one stage to take the dir cards off and see what was going on, but I do not really understand how it all works. Is there something simple that I am missing, and if so could you please tell me how to fix it please.

My 2008 LR2 has been experiencing starter problems. On any given day it will not start for no apparent reason. This has been going on for several months. I finally took it to an outside mechanic who believes it has to to with the push button start. It is not getting out of the security mode and therefore preventing the car to start. I’d I wait 24 hours it may start again.

  • Charles

While driving my Land Rover Defender 110 on a very hot day on the motorway the clutch pedal seemed to get spongey. After so long it became very hard to get into gear, and then after a while the clutch pedal just went to the floor, and I was no longer able to change gear.

There does not seem to be any leaks, to there are no visible signs of things being broken, so any ideas would be most welcome.
