Jeep problems

Consumer common Jeep problems can be tracked by year with the feedback left by Car Recalls readers, or by taking a look at official recall news below on this page. In the past we have seen transmission and electrical problems with Jeep’s Grand Cherokee, fuel pump issues, and a full blown ignition switch recall in 2014.

Other Jeep recalls have included one for ignition problems that could cause for it to be accidentally turned off thanks to “excess weight”, although this impacted mainly the 2006-2007 Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee. The brands SUVs received a recall for possible headliner fires in the same year and also front airbag issues, as we have seen with many auto brands.

Jeep has a range of vehicles in their lineup, so leave details about any problems your off-road and sport utility vehicle has below. You can reach official customer service to the right for VIN searches and more, or read the news and interact with the community feedback.

Getting annoyed now, as my 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been suffering strange electrical issues for a while now, yet Chrysler does not seem to care. I know I am not the only one with this issue, as a guy from Canada is suffering from the very same thing.

  • Eric

We currently have the 2015 Cherokee Latitude, complete with a V6 engine and Active Drive II 4×4 transmission. The problem we have is that after towing a great distance our vehicle fails to recognize the keyless entry fobs. Took it to the dealer and they managed to fix it. However, once we towed something again, the same thing happened, what could be causing this?

  • Billy

Just learned that the NHTSA is not investigation 50,000 Jeep Cherokee’s, as there have been reports of white smoke under the hood, and the ending cutting out.

  • Gary

Just learned that the Jeep Grand Cherokee is involved in an Airbag recall, but nothing to do with Takata.

  • Jess

Looks like the 9-speed transmission in my 2015 Chrysler 200s is also playing up. Was only a matter of time.

  • Mike

I have an issue with the wiring on my 2001 Jeep Wrangler, as there does not seem to be any power behind the fuse box.

  • Keith

Is it right that mu 2014 Grand Jeep Cherokee while shifting between gears?

  • Gabby

Please help, I have a Jeep Cherokee and for some reason when the cruise control is set it will not brake when going downhill. Have taken it to the dealer, where they said there was nothing that would cause this.

  • Nancy

The airbag light has just come on in my 2012 Jeep Liberty, and will not go off. What on earth would cause this to happen?

  • Jo

The first time I decide to use the rear drivers side window it went down no problems, but for some reason will not go up, although I can hear the motor running. Oh sorry, I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty.

  • Kay

I really do think Jeep need to sort out the quality of their accessories, as I have now gone through three door handles on my 2006 Jeep Commander. One actually crumbled in my hand, sort it out please getting sick of paying a small fortune for new parts.

  • Jenson

The brakes have been grinding on my 2012 Jeep Compass for several weeks now. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer to get this checked, and they have found nothing wrong with it, yet the noise has come back once again.

  • Daisy

Seems that I am having the same issue as many other 2015 Jeep Renegade owners with the 9-speed automatic transmission version, and that is a sudden burst of acceleration. The vehicle has now been with the dealer for over a week, and are still waiting to find out how they intend to fix this.

  • Dennis

The sunroof on my 2008 Jeep Patriot is leaking, I have now taken it to the dealer several times, but have been unwilling to fix it for free. I know it has passed its warranty, but I feel it is a production problem, as I have known other models to have the same issue.

  • Gordon

Why does the gas overflow when I refuel my 2009 Jeep Liberty? It is almost like it is fuel, which I know it is not.

  • Jasmine

Is there any way at all that I can make my 1989 Jeep Comanche feel more stable, as it feels far too light? I was thinking of maybe changing the tires, or even adding a bit more weight to the vehicle as a whole to try and make it feel that bit heavier.

  • Carl

My 1979 Jeep Wagoneer is now like a member of the family, so imagine how upset I was to find that it would not start one day. When this first happened it made a liking noise, and it no longer makes any sound now. I have checked the battery, and that is fine, which is what I assumed it would be, so what else could be the case?

  • Neil

Oh dear, yet another problem for my 2012 Jeep Patriot. This is now the third or fourth issue, and this has to be one of the most annoying ones. The issue I now have is the transmission slips, although this only seems to happen when the vehicle is driven at low speeds or up an incline. Does this sound like a transmission issue, or a problem with the clutch?

  • Miles

There seems to be a problem with the automatic transmission on my 2014 Jeep Wrangler. The other morning I shifted the car from park to reverse and there was a horrible jerk. It then jerked again when putting it back into park. Once the car is driving all is ok, it only happens when shifting from park to drive and back again, or even into reverse.

  • Adam

I currently have the 2015 Jeep Renegade 9-Speed Auto version, but after only having less than 50 miles on the clock the vehicle began to act funny. Each time there was a gear change I could feel it, but not as bad as when I decided to select reverse, it was as though there was no clutch, as it made a horrible noise trying to find the gear itself. However, it only does this a few times and then the transmission is smooth once again, although does not take long before things go bad once again.

  • Carter

The engine in my 2008 Jeep Commander will stall without warning and at times has gotten me is some dangerous situations. I have since taken the car to Chrysler, where they replaced the WIN module, and all was fine for a week or and, but now the problem is back once again.

  • Craig

Ok, I know this is not a major issue, but it has become very annoying for me. I’m talking about the compass in my Jeep Renegade. I have lost count how many times the dealer has tried to fix it, but with no success. I just cannot understand why they just don’t replace the entire unit, as surely that is now the only option?

  • Harry

How come every time it rains I have to try and dry up a huge amount of water from the front passer foot well. Ok, so i know it is a leak from outside, but where could it be coming in from. Oh, sorry, the car is a 2006 Jeep Liberty.

  • Doug

Please help, the engine on my 2008 Jeep Commander will still without any warning at all. I have had vehicles in the past that would give you some sort of clue that they are about to stall, and giving the eying a few more revs will stop this from happening. However, this is not the case here, as the engine just goes off without warning, which is not only annoying, but also dangerous. I was wondering if it could be the WIN Module, as I have read about this issue before?

  • Dominic

Well, that was fun, as the gas pedal broke off while driving, although thankfully it did not happen at a point where it could have been dangerous. The vehicle in question is a 2015 Jeep Patriot, and so wondered if this was a common issue, as it does seem a rather bad fault?

  • Harold

I have now had the radio in my 2014 Jeep Cherokee fixed three times by the dealer, and it has gone wrong again. It is the same issue where it will either freeze on me, or just change the volume on its own.

  • Wendy

Starting to get annoyed now, as one of the windows in my 2006 Jeep Liberty keeps falling down. I dod have this repaired at my own expense, only for it to happen on another window. I know this to now be a common issue, so is it about time there was a recall?

  • Daphne

Every time it rains a pool of water seems to appear from under the driver’s seat, and I have no clue where it is coming from. All I know is that there is no hole on the floor of my 2007 Jeep Liberty.

  • Joshua

How come everything always happens as once, because one day all was working fine, and the next the warning lights for my ABS, 4WD, and anti skid on my 2014 Jeep Patriot all came on at once. I was told that it was the right front speed sensor, so just thought I would let people know just for those of you having the very same issue.

    • Melissa

I had this happen. But mine only had 26,000 miles on it, so I doubt it was the speed sensor. Unless they are bad sensors.

  • Jess

After driving for around 5 hours at a steady 60 to 65 the transmission overheated. We then had to stop every few hours for the transmission to cool down, which added a lot of time on our journey, The fluid was fine, and I have no clue as to was the problem is, could any help please.

  • Jon

The rear window on my 2007 Jeep Liberty lift plates keep falling into the door, which is annoying because the dealer has now repaired this issue around five times now. Luckily this has only happened while driving at a low speed and with no one in the back. Thanks god my child was not in the back and did not happen on the freeway.

  • Danny

I have a Jeep Wrangler and for some reason there is a strange wobble that shakes the whole car. There was one time when I thought I was going to die because the entire car was vibrating while on the freeway, but what could be the cause of this?

  • Richard

The transmission light has now come on three times on my Jeep Cherokee, which now says it needs to be serviced. I cannot understand how seeing as though I only have 6,000 mile son the clock, and the vehicle is just only a year old.

I am not sure if this is a common fault, or whether there has been a recall, so some advice would be welcome.

  • Stacey Luallen

I bought my Jeep Cherokee Latitude 9 months ago brand new. At 4000 miles I had to service the transmission. The car would not get past 20 mph after slamming to a slower speed on the highway for no reason. The manufacturer reset the computer. I am now at 10,000 miles and taking the car in again for the same problem. Looking into lemon laws, and filing a formal complaint. Last time I was without a car for 3 days and had to miss work.

  • Cyndi Fraley

I bought my 2016 Jeep Latitude in July. Have had recall for wipers fixed since then. Having issues with alarm going off and showing 0 pressure driver side front tire but tire is fine had ned twice now and some times when press on gas especially if sitting on hill at stop sign when go to take off sounds andeels like spring catching in gas pedal. Anyone else having these issues?

  • Gary

My 2015 Jeep Cherokee has a very rough idle and after being told that a software update would fix this, I am unhappy because this was not the case – now what?

  • Melissa

2014 Jeep Patriot with serious electrical issue. I would be driving and all of a sudden the electric in the vehicle could go out, all lights on the dash would light up like a Christmas tree. Two seconds later…my radio would reboot, and I could continue driving. This is dangerous.
