Jaguar notices and problem check

Jaguar common problems range from turbo related faults to starting issues for different models that include the X-type. Not all common Jaguar problems receive recall notices and you might need to check your VIN against the official search tool to see if your vehicle is impacted by recalls.

Jaguar

The Jaguar brand isn’t normally featured in a lot of recalls, although this doesn’t mean the cars don’t get their fair share of problems. The Jaguar F-Type had a recall related to seatbelt sensors and a smaller number of vehicles in the United States related to potential loss of power steering, or risk of fire in late 2014.

You can check if your Jaguar problem is reported by other drivers below, leave an update on your issues, or take a look at official recall notices on this page as well. There’s also support information to the right for official service contacts.

My 2001 Jaguar S type 3L V6 hs developed a problem with its automatic transmission, such as not being able to select drive until I have moved the stick around, and also issues with passing third gear.

  • Graham

I’ve been having problems with my 2008 XF not starting. I replaced the car battery and nothing, then replaced the Smart Key battery and things worked fine for a couple of days. However, the car does not start once again.

I’m having a few issues with the Infotainment system in my 2009 Jaguar XF 4.2 SV8, for example, sometimes it will not recognize any USB, Bluetooth does not work the Navigation DVD is playing up as well. Does anyone have an idea as to its cause?

I have a 2004 X-Type Jag and while it used to start fine, all I get now is a clicking sound. Do you think it could be an issue with its immobilizer?

  • Lenny

The door handles on my 2005 Jaguar X-Type have failed around 4 or 5 times now, costing around $700 at a time. Surely Jaguar should look into this, as it’s costing me a small fortune, and I am not the only one suffering from this problem.

  • Jeff

A few days ago I was trying to park my 2004 Jaguar XJ8 into a parking space and when I touched my brake to slow down, the vehicle lurched forward and started to accelerate. Thankfully, this happened in a place where there were no parked cars or people around, as there would have been an accident for sure. Has this ever happened to any other owners, and if so what is the solution?

  • Maria

If you find that you have a coolant leak in your Jaguar X-Type, then try and get it repaired soon. If you leave it too long there is a chance that it could be a bad gasket and cause a pressure build-up, which could then damage the water pump.

  • Jason

Water has started to leak inside my 1988 XJ40. I have tried to chase where the water is coming in from, but have had no luck. is this a common issue?

  • Dave

I stupidly allowed my Jaguar XK8 to run out of fuel, now that I have filled it up the car will not start. Do you think I have ruined the fuel pump?

  • Marcus

The EPB module has failed once again on my 2005 Jaguar S-Type, which has totally locked the brakes. This is not the first time and is frankly getting very annoying now.

  • Earl

The heater blower on my 2005 Jaguar XK8 is very noisy and as a result makes the dash vibrate A couple of people have suggested that removing a piece of insulation in the dash blower box will solve the issue. Is this a job someone without much car repair knowledge could attempt, or should I just take it to the main dealer to be ripped off?

  • Wozzer

I am all ready to complain to Jaguar, as my 2000 XJ8 drivetrain has developed a horrible vibration, which is coming from the rear differential. The reason I say this is because I believe that Jaguar knew this could be a potential problem, as I have heard many cases of the same issue.

  • Giles

A few months ago I took my 2007 Jaguar S-Type in for a service and pretty much everything was ok. However, a week or so ago I had a brake and rotor failure. I took it back to the dealers and they said they had to be replaced, which I was confused over, seeing as though they had already given the car a clean bill of health a few months before. I had no indication that the brakes were going, they just failed on me one day. Am I missing something here, because surely this fault should have been spotted during the service?

  • Jordan

I have had this annoying rattle in my 2005 Jaguar XK8 for a while now. I thought it was coming from the glove box first, but was wrong. However, I think I have found the issue, and that is the rear view mirror because when it is held the rattle goes away. Now all I have to do is think about how to stop it from ratteling.

  • Sam

There is a siren like noise in coming from my 2003 Jaguar X-Type, which gets louder the faster I go. All the wheels have been checked over, the pullers and serpentine belt have been replaced, yet the noise is still there. I have also checked the engine belt, and this is also fine, and so am at a loss of where else to look.

  • Alexander

I was driving down the street in my 2003 Jaguar S-Type that I just recently bought from some guy, when all of a sudden the car decided to speed up all on its own. I hit the brakes because I almost ploughed into a car tat had come to a stop at a set of lights. I was shaken up, but thought it was a one off, although it has since happened again and have now decided to stop driving the vehicle. Does anyone know if this is a common issue, or if there was a recall for this problem?

  • Marie

I’ve been told by a local dealer that because a bad gasket in the cooling system had built up too much pressure, and in doing so caused a coolant leak, it has also damaged the water pump, and so this will need to be replaced. I’d just like to ask if this sounds right, or is the garage trying to do me for more money?

  • Graham

The heater on my Jag XK8 is very noisy, and also makes the dash vibrate when on a high speed setting. Does anyone know if there is a known issue, or am I the only one. Although, I would also like to know what could be the cause.

  • Jason

No matter how much I try, I just cannot shift my 2000 Jaguar S Type out of park. I have checked the transmission fluid, and even changed it in the hope that it would solve the issue – yet the problem still persists.

  • Dominic

I am not happy as the fuel pump on my Jaguar S-Type has stopped working. The question is, should I fit a genuine part back, or is it ok to go down the chair option?

  • Denver

The AWD transfer case seal on my 2003 Jaguar X-Type has started to leak. It had since been replaced, but not long after started to leak once again, and now found that the transfer case bearings have gone. I think that all the lubricant was lost, and so if this happens to you, this is a warning that if your seal goes, be prepared for a large bill.

  • Danny

How come my Jaguar XJ8 decided to lurch forward on its own, and when I tried to press the brakes nothing happened. I have spoken to the dealer about this, and they have no knowledge of this happening to any other of their cars. However, I have since learned that there have been other cases, though Jaguar have yet to admit any such problem.

  • Jeff

There’s a horrible noise coming from the engine of the Jaguar XJ8 while idling or after cold start. I have heard that this could be down to the timing chain , and if this is the case, could it cause any serious damage to the engine of left for too long?
