HUMMER problems can range from full blown recalls in the USA and worldwide, or to slight defects with vehicles under the HUMMER brand that include trucks, luxury SUVs, and SUTs.

The GM Recall Center is where you can check on current and past recalls spanning over 15 years. The parent company General Motors uses the same recall VIN search for HUMMER, as well as GMC, Chevrolet, Saturn, Pontiac, and other brands incorporated into their company.

You might have been involved in a HUMMER H3 hood recall and fuel tank issues a few years ago, although this brand wasn’t involved in the recent major recalls that included those for airbags. It’s not good that GM shut down the division during the 2009 bankruptcy and complicated reorganization, so this is why some people feel there hasn’t been recent recalls for the HUMMER models.

If you have problems with your HUMMER, or want to raise a question to GM then use the contact details on this page and leave issues below.

It would seem my 2006 Hummer H3 has an erratic idle and often stumbles and almost dies when coming to a complete stop.

  • Patrick

Strange electrical problems on my Hummer H3, lights turning off on their own, or coming on and unable to switch them off. Just wondered if anyone else has had the same issues?

  • Cecil

Having left my H2 parked for a while I come back to find the rear has dropped by about half a foot compared to the front. However, once the ending is running the height equals itself out.

  • Mike

I have a 3.5-liter 2006 HUMMER and there is white smoke coming from the exhaust, yet there is no engine warning light.

  • Steve

For some reason the transmission on my Hummer H2 is not as smooth as it once was, could this just been down to a lack of oil, complete oil change in the transmission, or something far worse?

  • Paul

I have no headlights or interior light, and yes, I checked the fuses. Could it be due to a bad electrical problem?

  • Jed

What would cause my 2006 Hummer H3 Adventure 3.5l i5. to run very roughly; I’m worried that the head gasket has blown.

  • Frank

It would seem that the valves have gone on my H3 HUMMER, I heard this was a bit of an issue with this mode, but was there ever a recall for it?

    • tony

Yes last 6 vin should be below 287951 for 2006 hummer h3

  • Steve

Is it just me or do the Hummer H3 stock tires have no grip?

  • Donald

The engine on my 2006 Hummer H3 has started to run very roughly, and so I now fear it could be a blown head gasket, as this has been a common fault with this type of vehicle. Is there an easy check to find out if it is ore not?

    • tony

There us a recall on the valve seats. Vin sequence (last six) has to be below 287951. They are to replace with hardened valve seats. I’m dealing with this myself

        Help please!!!
Where do I get the supporting info on this? My car is having issues, too. Cylinder # 4 has no compression and I am about to have to pay for this out of pocket. I took it to a Chevy dealership as directed when Hummer went away and also checked with the usual Chevy place I have been using for service since, then. Could you please email me at with any info about the recall? Thanks!!!!

        • kaare

Did you ever get an answer on this? I see no recall

  • Rudi

Since I have had my Hummer H3 from new in 2008, I have had the radiator crack twice now, which meant replacing them both times. Hummer have said it is not their problem, which I believe it is. Has anyone else had such a problem?

  • Brad

There is a very loud noise coming from the rear of my HUMMER H3, which i assume is the suspension. The issue had been fixed, but has since come back and seem even louder, so what the hell can it be?

  • Karl

My 2007 HUMMER H3 developed a small fire a couple of weeks back, which started from the passenger side underneath. The vehicle was not able to be salvaged, and to make matters worse, General Motors has been unwilling to take the blame.

  • Arron

I’m started to get annoyed with the steering column on my 2006 Hummer H3, as it is very noisy. I took it to my local garage, who was unable to give me a straight answer as to what the issue was, but said it would cost around $1,300 to fix. I have yet to fix the issue because was not it was not dangerous to keep driving it, and not prepared to get fixed with an answer as to what is the cause.

  • Donald

The sunroof on my H3 started to leak, although the dealer was kind enough to replace the drain hose, which they said was the cause of the issue. However, the problem still persists and the dealer refuses to help any longer. But that is not the only issue now, as the leak from the sunroof has cause an unpleasant odor the the car, and also the seats are now stained – surely the dealer has to do something about this?

  • Alex

If you have a H3 Hummer, then I would advise that you have it serviced on a regular basis, as to make certain you do now have the issues I had. The radiator had cracked, which made the H3 overheat. Upon further inspection once the H3 was at the garage it was dissevered that the coolant had leaked into the transmission, which has caused serious damage. If I would have had the regular service they would have been able to tell me if the radiator was showing signs of fatigue or not, and in the process saved me a $4,000 repair bill.

  • Noah

My 2007 Hummer H3 has a problem with its transmission, which I have found out that it was the forward spring that had broke. I have since learned that I am not the only one, and that GM already knew such an issue could happen. This has made be angry since the fact i spent over $2,000 getting the issue fixed. You would think that a military grade vehicle would be able to handle just pulling away from a set of lights, as that is the time when the spring broke in the transmission.

  • Christian

I have lost count at how many times my 2006 Hummer H3 has failed to start. If I wait several minutes after the first time I tried to start it, then the thing just starts as though nothing was wrong. The worrying thing is, this is now happening on amore regular basis, and I just don;t know what to do.

  • Mike

The air conditioner decided to complete stop working, although I have found that it was caused by the relay under the dash. However, I have since learned that the wiring from the AC to that rely had burned out, which was the cause of blowing the rely. What would cause this to happen?

  • Tommy

I have lost count at the number of times my 2003 Hummer H3 doors have locked all on their own; this will happen even if I am in the vehicle or out. However, I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but ever since this problem started, I have also lost performance – ok not that there was much there in the first place. I am wondering if the two could be connected in any way at all?

  • John

My Hummer H3 started to smell of smoke, and noticed fire coming from the bottom of the vehicle. I managed to get it under control, but now trying to understand why this happened. Has this happened to anyone else?

  • Warren

The check engine warning light keeps coming on in my Hummer H3. I have looked at several things, but al seem to be ok. I have heard that it could be due to a faulty gas cap. But how true is this – surely it cannot be that simply?
