Honda, Takata airbag recall update for December 2014

Takanobu Ito, the Honda Motor Co. Chief Executive has not had a good 6 years at the helm of the Japanese car manufacturer because on his watch there has been a recall for 10 million Honda vehicles due to faulty Takata airbags, although that is just one example that has happened on his watch.

Honda, Takata airbag recall update for December 2014

The likes of Honda and Takata will find out the fate of a U.S. congressional committee hearing today, the second in fact due to these recalls. However, Honda has asked that there be industry-wide testing by third-party testers, and that Takata and other carmakers should be in support of it.

There are a total of 17 million vehicles recalled because of faulty airbags, although that number could increase if the Senate forces the issue. However, Honda has said it will form an independent panel to find out what went wrong, as Ito is not happy and would like to see what changes can be made to prevent something like this happening again.

He also said that he was unhappy that the same recall on defective products had to be issued so many times. We now wait to see what the U.S. congressional committee says today.
